Frequently asked questions
Understand the main considerations before choosing a hybrid inverter.
What is a hybrid solar inverter?
A hybrid inverter is designed to coordinate solar PV with a battery and, depending on the model, the utility grid and backup circuits. The exact operating modes and wiring arrangement vary by product.
Can a hybrid inverter work without a battery?
Some models support operation without a connected battery, while others have specific operating requirements. Confirm the manufacturer's approved operating configurations before selecting or commissioning a model.
Which battery can I connect to a hybrid inverter?
Only use battery models and chemistries listed as compatible by the inverter manufacturer. Check voltage range, charge and discharge limits, BMS communication and required firmware.
Will the hybrid inverter provide backup during a power cut?
Backup is not automatic on every hybrid inverter. Confirm that the selected model has a backup or EPS output, then check its rating, supported phase arrangement, transfer behaviour and the circuits wired to it.
Can it run the entire home or business during an outage?
Not necessarily. Backup capacity depends on the inverter's documented output and surge limits, battery capability, system wiring and the loads operating at the same time. Critical-load planning is recommended.
Can an existing on-grid solar system be upgraded to hybrid?
It may be possible, but compatibility and the required AC- or DC-coupled design depend on existing equipment, battery support, electrical layout and local approvals. A qualified site assessment is needed.
